International Summer School on Composites in Infrastructure

(ISSCI 2018)

July 9-11, 2018

Tsinghua University, Beijing, China

Following the success of the inaugural and second International Summer School on Composites in Infrastructure (ISSCI), which were hosted by the International Centre for Composites in Infrastructure (ICCI) at the University of Wollongong in 2016 and 2017, respectively, we are organizing the third summer school of its series in the coming July (9-11 July 2018) at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. 

The ISSCI, to be taught by a strong team of world’s leading scholars, will focus on the structural use of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in infrastructure. The ISSCI aims to prepare researchers and postgraduate students for high-quality research in the area, and to prepare engineers for practical applications. It will provide a comprehensive and thorough treatment of the behaviour, modelling and design of structures incorporating FRP composites (including both FRP-strengthened structures and FRP-based new structures), with a strong emphasis on their fundamental mechanics.

Similar to the practice in the last year, in this year, the summer school will be followed by the second International Symposium for Emerging Researchers in Composites for Infrastructure (ISERCI), which will be held on 12-13 July 2018. The ISERCI series, initiated in 2017 by the ICCI at the University of Wollongong, aims to provide an international forum for upcoming researchers/practitioners and rising stars in the area to share their recent advances in both research and practice, and to explore research/industry partnership opportunities. Participants of the ISSCI are encouraged to attend the ISERCI with a discounted registration fee.

International Symposium for Emerging Researchers in Composites for Infrastructure

(ISERCI 2018)

The 2nd International Symposium for Emerging Researchers in Composites for Infrastructure (ISERCI 2018) will be held in Beijing and will be hosted by the Department of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University. The inaugural ISERCI was held at the University of Wollongang in Australia in 2017.

The use of composite materials in infrastructure has increased tremendously over the past two decades, primarily for the strengthening of existing structures but also increasingly for the construction of new structures. The ISERCI aims to provide an international forum for upcoming researchers and rising stars in the area to share their recent research advances and to explore research collaboration opportunities.

The ISERCI 2018 will be preceded by the International Summer School on Composites in Infrastructure (ISSCI), which will be held on 9-11 July 2018 at Tsinghua University. The ISSCI, to be taught by a strong team of world’s leading scholars, aims to prepare researchers and postgraduate students for high-quality research in the area, and to prepare engineers for practical applications. Participants of the ISERCI are encouraged to attend the ISSCI and enjoy a discounted registration fee.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

Researchers who obtained their PhD degree within the last 15 years or so, as well as current PhD students, are invited to submit abstracts to the inaugural ISERCI to be held in Tsinghua University, Beijing, China on 12-13 July 2018 (Thursday and Friday).

Abstracts of around 200 words should be sent by 30 April 2018 to: liuxing17@mails.tsinghua.edu.cn. Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to give a presentation at the symposium.
